A 4 and a half hour flight from the UK takes you to Larnarca airport in Cyprus and 45 minute drive away from there is Famagusta on the East Coast of the island. Famed for its crystal clear water and golden beaches, Famagusta has some of the best snorkelling and diving on the island as well as plenty of hidden coves to explore and take a dip. The landscape here is stunning, and in some areas a little unusual too, with mineral rich “red soil” in many villages, giving the fields filled with potatoes, vegetables, and fruit, a very distinctive look. While there are some large tourist resorts here such as Ayia Napa, there are plenty of smaller more sleepy villages such as Avgorou and Vrysoulles, that offer holiday makers something a little more relaxed. And with the coastline dotted with idyllic fishing harbours and medieval temples, Famagusta definitely has something for everyone.
