Mojacar, Spain - A Place in the Sun

Mojacar, Spain Scarlette Douglas

Scarlette Douglas is in the charming, whitewashed town of Mojacar on the Costa Almeria with house hunter, Maureen who after holidaying there for nearly 30 years feels now’s the right time to make the big move and retire there permanently. With brother-in-law Dave also at hand to lend his support, Maureen would love to find a 2-bedroom property with a terrace and sea views, but will Scarlette be able to deliver on her dream for her budget of £90,000?

Mojacar

What's the appeal?

Mojacar lies on the Costa Almeria in the south of Spain – you can fly to Almeria airport in about 3 hours from most UK airports – then it’s around an hour’s drive. Mojacar has been inhabited since the Bronze Age and was a major town for the Greeks, Romans and Moors. Local legend claims that Walt Disney was born here in 1905 before emigrating to America. Mojacar is split into two parts: Mojacar Playa by the coast (16km) which is the lively tourist area with all its beautiful beaches, hotels, shops and restaurants; and Mojacar Pueblo, the old, whitewashed town in the hills, which has more of a traditional Andalusian feel.
