Laura Hamilton is in Gran Canaria with Sean and Ian, helping them find a holiday home on the east coast near their favourite town of Vecindario, which they love for its traditional, and laid-back atmosphere. What's the appeal?

Gran Canaria is the third largest island in the Canaries and can be reached from the UK with a 4 and a half hour flight. It’s best known resorts are Las Palmas and Maspolomas but we’ll be searching along the west coast between them, in and around the town of Vecindario; a traditional spot with a pretty public park and a fantastic food market which is always filled with locals. It’s a 45 minute walk to the coast from here, but the charming rocky coves and pebbled beaches are worth the effort. And with other quaint little towns to explore nearby, like Ingenio and Aguimes, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a more authentic life in the sun.

This area is made up of townhouses and estates, which were constructed in response to the increasing demand for housing in this working town - so residents are mostly locals.
