Property in Peloponnese

Peloponnese is about the size of Wales, the Peloponnese only received a small percentage of the tourist that head to Crete or Corfu, yet if you don’t like crowds and party resorts,
then maybe you should try it.

Separated from the Greek mainland by the Corinth Canal - a dramatic must-see sight in its own right - the nearest section of the Peloponnese takes around 90 minutes to reach from Athens, although you can also fly into Kalamata airport.

The Peloponnese is one of the most mythologised locations in Greece - home to some of the most famous archaeological sites in the world, including Olympia and Ancient
Messini, and the ancient city-state of Sparta. it is a beautiful area of river valleys,
mountain ranges and sun-baked small coastal peninsulas, carpeted with the
famous purple Kalamata olives (that make prized olive oil too), feta cheese and ancient vineyards.

There are hundreds of small villages, with locals festivals and family-run tavernas, around which local live revolves, along with farming and fishing.
There are four prongs of the plane tree shaped peninsula, with the nearest to Athens home to Porto Heli, the exclusive little summer playground for wealthy Athenians. There there is a five-star Aman hotel resort, Amanzoe, selling luxury villas and a celebrity
holiday magnet. Head on further south and you hit the three fingers of the Southern
Peloponnese and the central one, the Mani Peninsula, is a popular spot for
home hunters. The arid, mountainous peninsula is famed for its oregano,
thyme and ancient stone Mani towers.

People are attracted by the lack of mass tourism, the attractive beaches
such as sandy Kalogria and the crystal clear bays of its rugged coastline with
cypress trees and olive groves. Access into Kalamata airport has proved a big draw for British visitors. The pretty beach resort and harbour of Stoupa and also the fishing village of Agios Nikolaos (not to be confused with the town in north-east Crete) are hot
spots for buyers. The average spend is €200,000 to €240,000 for a traditional
stone house with a pool and sea views, although you can get characterful
old stone houses in need of TLC for €50,000 to €100,000.

Further on still, the other side of Kalamata, is the furthest west finger of the Peloponnese, the Messina peninsula and the five-star Westin Resort of Costa Navarino. There are
two golf courses (footballer Cristiano Ronaldo played there), conference facilities, spa and thalassotherapy centres and a range of properties for sale in the resort that continues
to evolve.
