For fun in the sun, it’s hard to beat Spain. Holiday makers and property buyers know this only too well and affordable property in Spain goes a long way to making it our favourite place to buy abroad. But where to find the best cheap property in Spain?
A quick look at our Best Places to Buy Abroad 2023 gives a snapshot of where most of you are looking for this – the average search budget across Spain is £159,395 but in many of these locations it’s around £100k.
Torrevieja
Top of our annual index for the second year running is Torrevieja in Alicante. Alicante is served by dozens of flights from a good number of regional airports so easy access also adds to its appeal. For those seeking cheap houses in Spain near the beach it’s hard to beat.
There’s are plenty of one and two-bedroom apartments for a budget of €50,000-€60,000 in the lively, cosmopolitan resort where there is really no shortage of properties to buy.

Southern Costa Blanca
Looking south of Torrevieja to the Southern Costa Blanca is also a good place to find cheap properties in Spain. Villamartin and Ciudad Quesada – your next favourite locations – reflect that.
Buyers love the fact it is within easy reach of Alicante, the beaches of Punta Prima and Playa Flamenca, and shopping at La Zenia mall. There are plenty of good two-bedroom apartments for a budget of €80,000.
Murcia
But head south over the border to Murcia and you might just find some of the cheapest properties in Spain – within reach of the sea, that is.
Murcia’s Costa Calida offers low-key seaside villages around the Mar Menor but go slightly inland to get more bang for your buck. You can still find buy bank repossessed golf resort apartments for around €60,000.
Inland locations
During 2022 we had several property hunters on our TV show head to Almeria for the cheapest places in Spain. Avoid pricier coastal locations such as Mojacar and Vera and look inland to Albox, Arboleas and Los Gallardos. Retirees Howard and Christine’s great new home in Los Gallardos cost less than £50k.
Bargain properties for sale in Spain can also be found in the numerous inland villages in Valencia (look at the Orba Valley) and Andalusia.
In the past year we’ve seen a lot of interest in rural properties within 45 minutes to an hour northeast of Malaga airport in Axarquia – a Moorish area full of pretty hilltop villages in the foothills of the mountains.
Check out locations around Lake Vinuela, Alcaucin and Comares for properties such as a five-bedroom village house with change from £100k. You can find a cheap villa with a pool too – for less than £250k.
Coastal locations
On the coast look to the fringes of the Costa de Sol for better value – west around Manilva and La Duquesa; east towards Nerja and Torrox Costa.
