Taking early retirement means John Mullaney and wife Sally are lucky enough to spend half the year at their beachside home in Alanya.
The couple, from Hull, own a two-bedroom apartment on the Sunset Beach VIP complex on the edge of Konakli, a small resort just west of Alanya town. They bought the property off -plan, completing around 18 months ago.
"The purchase price was €140,000 (£105k)," said John. "But as we were selling another apartment in the area, we negotiated a part exchange deal with the builder, Letsgototurkey.com, and we paid the difference of around €60,000. Our place has fantastic ocean views from the front balcony and looks over the communal pool at the back. Other facilities include a kids play area, gym, sauna, indoor pool and pool bar - and we're just 250 metres from the beach. Our communal fees are 300 lira (£85) a month."
The Mullaneys began visiting Turkey 15 years ago and purchased their first apartment seven years ago. Now they typically spend spring and autumn months at their apartment, avoiding the hotter summer temperature.
"We go for strolls and on bike rides, relax by the pool, do excursions and shop at the great local markets - there's one just about every day of the week around here. And we love eating out, which is great value, especially if you follow the locals. We're getting to know the other owners at Sunset Beach too, who are mostly Scandinavian and a very friendly crowd."
To get to Turkey, the Mullaneys fly to Antalya from either Leeds Bradford or Manchester, and have a 90-minute transfer to their apartment.
