Goa is increasingly becoming a popular destination for holiday rentals, according to lettings website HomeAway.co.uk, who saw a 59% increase in enquiries for the Indian state during 2011.
Overall Goa was one of the most popular destinations for holiday rentals during 2011, with Southern Asia emerging overall as a favourite destination.
The largest rises among bookings were Australia and Brazil, while the highest number of bookings on the site occurred in winter sun favourites the Canaries, closely followed by Dubai and Barcelona.
"Brits definitely looked to escape the ongoing winter chill in the first few months of this year, despite the ongoing tough economic climate, and it seems increasing numbers of holidaymakers are now opting for exotic, further flung locations too."commented Andy Cockburn, UK regional director for HomeAway.co.uk
"Both the Maldives and Sri Lanka registered significant growth in tourist demand in the first quarter of 2012, as did Goa." These are emerging markets for holiday rentals and we anticipate seeing supply here steadily increase too," he added
