A train from the latter will take you into Palermo in around 20 minutes. Casa Salvatore comprises the second and third floors of a building in a relatively modern area of the little village.

The split-level apartment consists of a pair of bedrooms (one of which is currently serving as a dining room), a living room, two bathrooms and a very spacious kitchen-diner which opens to both the east and west. On the inland side a balcony gives you a perfect view over the rooftops of Sant'Elia towards the rocky nature reserve of Monte Catalfano, while to the east is that superb terrace. Over 20m2 in size, it is equipped with a fixed awning and an outdoor sink. But the view is the real joy – it's the perfect spot to eat outdoors throughout the long Sicilian summer.
Although some of the decoration is a little dated, and the windows could do with replacing sooner rather than later, the apartment is absolutely liveable and would be ready to be used as soon as the purchase is complete.
