Platania is a town of approx. 2000 inhabitants and has many local amenities including grocery stores, pharmacy, café bars, restaurants. A park with children’s play area is the central focus of the town and the Church built between 1686 and 1706, but renovated following the earthquake of 1783. is just off the park.

The Museum of Microbiology and Natural Science and the Medical Museum are also worth a visit. The town also hosts several festivals throughout the year.
Within a short drive is the town of Lamezia/Nicastro, where there is a vast array of amenities afforded by the principal town for the area; shops, boutiques, supermarkets, banks café bars, restaurants to name but a few.

There are zones of archaeological interest including the Norman-Swabian Castle at Nicastro, the Benedictine Abbey of S. Maria at Santa Eufemia and the area of Giardini di Renda, where many artefacts have been found.

Visit also the Cathedral of Nicastro which dates back to the Byzantine period and over time has been transformed with the latest neo-classical façade added in 1925. The Diocesan Museum preserves the history of the diocese from the 15th to the 20th century. The objects on display range from sacred vestments to reliquaries.

Within easy reach is the thermal springs of Lamezia Terme – and Health Spa – La Caronte, a source of sulphur waters & mud that offer therapeutic effects and well worth a visit.
Santa Eufemia has many amenities close by, including shops, café bars, supermarkets. With the beach at Cafarone being just 5 minutes’ drive away.Gizzeria Lido is a short drive away and has a variety of shops and bars with a 10km stretch of beach that benefits from thermal air that is ideal for kite surfing and each year hosts numerous competitions and has kite surfing schools.

The property is conveniently positioned to access the A2 autostrada from where it is possible to explore the many traditional hilltop villages and La Sila National Park, which is approx. 1 ½ hr drive away and boasts some of the most spectacular and dramatic scenery offered in the area coupled with year-round activities such as walking, pony trekking, quad bikes and skiing in the winter.

Further to the south approx. 1 hours drive are the beautiful resorts of Pizzo, famous for its sphere shaped, hazelnut and chocolate ice cream “Tartufo di Pizzo,” and Tropea for its beautiful beaches and the iconic Sanctuary of Santa Maria dell’ Isola, a ancient monastery set on a rocky outcrop in the sea.
