Atessa boasts a great historical and artistic heritage. Its fame is linked to the legend about a dragon killed by San Leucio di Alessandria, the patron saint of the city, whose rib is preserved in the Cathedral of San Leucio, in a predominant position in the village.
The town hosts the Sassu Museum, a beautiful art gallery dedicated to the painter Aligi Sassu, at the Palazzo Ferri in Corso Vittorio Emanuele.
During the summer, various events are held in Atessa, including the International Folklore Festival and the jazz music festival in July.
