Full Description
Location of property Pindus mountain , Northen Greece. The stone cottage is approximately 100 years old and constructed with walls 70cm thick. It has a tin roof, a bedroom, a living room, a simple kitchen, a bathroom and a large basement (with a trapdoor) that with some effort could be converted to an additional living space.
The cottage has been renovated or upgraded to some level that could be lived but still requires some work. The 2400m2 garden contains several trees including a large Cherry tree and a large Chestnut tree, as well as several Walnut trees and other fruit trees. The grounds are bordered by a seasonal stream on one side, and the neighbouring homes though not far away are distant enough that one may have total privacy and solitude if one wishes.
In the centre of the village which is a 7 minute walk from the cottage, there are two Tavernas and a Coffeeshop. Most of the permanent inhabitants are elderly and involved in agriculture or work with animals. The area is a paradise for hikers and lovers of nature and the outdoors, with very little motor traffic and forests that begin on the boundary of the property and extend halfway up the surrounding mountain peaks, which are visible from all of the windows and also from the spacious balcony.
The property is located on a hillside within the Achelous River Valley, not far from the famous Seltsou monastery. In the springtime and early summer one can hear birdsong at 2am, and in August the village fills up with younger people who return to their ancestral home to celebrate. The area is blessed with wonderful weather during this period and isn’t as hot or muggy as places closer to the sea. The winters however are cold and one should be prepared with sufficient wood for use as fuel. The electrical switches, plugs and fuses are all new, and the tap water tastes delicious as it comes from springs under the village which emerge from the mountain.
