Kayakoy is a historic village often referred to locally as “the ghost town”. Tucked into a beautiful green valley between Oludeniz and Fethiye, it once homed a thriving Anatolian Greek community until a forced population exchange in 1923 left the town abandoned.
A visit to Kayakoy will likely mesmerise you. It is a location that feels a world away from the busy tourist resorts of Hisaronu, Oludeniz and Fethiye, and all reached within a 20-minute drive or bus ride. The ruins consist of hundreds of roofless, crumbling old stone houses stretching up the hillside connected by narrow stone lanes.
