With views across the lake and forests beyond, walk out the door in one direction from this lovely cottage in Vouvant and you have beautiful countryside to explore, walk in the other direction and you're straight into the medieval town centre with a range of cafes, restaurants and shops to choose from.

The green-shuttered cottage is very pretty and has 3 bedrooms, an air-source heat pump, parking, garage and a lovely garden with wisteria covered terrace that overlooks the lake the medieval tower and its' ramparts. The tower at the end of the driveway is a particularly interesting feature of the town. Thought to date from the 12th century and a protected historical monument since 1927, legend has it the tower was built in a single night by the Melusine fairy.

It might be useful if a reincarnation of the fairy were to wave her wand at the cottage as the current layout of the house would probably benefit from some reconfiguring to make the most of the space available and those fabulous views, but there is a total 148m2 habitable space to play with. Surrounded by lovely countryside and far-reaching views, this is an area with lots to explore. The nearby forest and lakes are ideal for walking and water-based sports. Nearby La Chataigneraie and Fontenay-le-Comte are also well worth visiting and the beach is just over an hour away. La Rochelle and the Ile de Re are ideal day trip destinations, about a 1hr 15 min drive away. La Rochelle also has the nearest airport. The ferry port at St Malo is 3hr 20mins away.
